Açai Bowl

THIS is the latest craze in the foodie world. You can find these pretty breakfast bowls at the trendiest spots in L.A., Miami, New York, London etc. Not to mention for a pricey cost, but fear not- I’ve managed to whip up this delicious treat from the comfort of my own home and so can you!

You’ll almost feel like you’re on some tropical island eating this smoothie in a bowl because of how refreshing it is. With a short, sweet list of ingredients you can have this nutritious and energising bowl of goodness ready in no time. It’s probably definitely one of my favourite recipes because of all the toppings. I love a plain base of anything and going crazy with the toppings- on pizza, ice cream, pancakes and the list goes on.

An açai bowl is essentially a smoothie, in a bowl, with tons of toppings that gets its pretty colour from the açai fruit. Açai is a berry originally found in South America similar to the blueberry and packed with antioxidants. It is usually only found in a freeze-dried powdered form around the globe and it’s what I’ve used here.

Ingredients:

  • 1-2 tsp açai powder
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries or raspberries
  • 3/4 cup milk of choice or coconut water
  • toppings could include: shredded coconut, raw cacao nibs, sliced banana, peanut butter, granola, berries, chia seeds, almonds…

Method:

Simply blend up your ingredients (not the toppings) for a few minutes until you get a smooth and thick smoothie. Pour it into a bowl, pile up your toppings and devour!
